Hi Truckers,

While many industries have been impacted by COVID-19, few workers are as mission-critical to keeping vital supply lines running as Truckers and Couriers. Who could have predicted the movement of emergency supplies to test and treat patients, not to mention basic household supplies, to help citizens maintain social distancing while isolating at home would be the one of the fastest growing industries in 2020?

“There's anywhere from a 40% to 60% increase of product being moved into grocery stores and warehouses since this started,” said Johnny Johnson, Managing Director for the New Mexico Trucking Association.

In order to allow drivers to expedite their deliveries, total hours that a driver can be on the road has been temporarily suspended. This puts an additional strain on drivers that are already working under stressful conditions.

While the Trucking and Courier industries are uniquely positioned to help in the containment effort of the pandemic, many of these vital drivers are not afforded protection from workplace injury as independent contractors. CAL Insurance can assist.

Did you know Occupational Accident is widely accepted as a cost-effective alternative to Workers” Compensation for the independent contractor? Occupational Accident coverage can provide Accident Medical, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Disability to keep these critical workers protected at a time when they need it most.

Please note that Workers’ Compensation and Occupational Accident will not cover injury due to COVID-19. This is a community acquired virus, thus most carriers are not covering a condition that is acquired as a member of the general public. Our carriers are reviewing claims on a case-by-case basis pursuant to the statutory guidelines of each State, but the circumstances in which a COVID-19 claim would be covered is minimal. Most states have very specific requirements for establishing an occupational illness.
